Keep in mind that the Five Boro Bike Tour will be taking place on Sunday morning and will be riding up the East Drive of Central Park as part of the 42 mile course.

The 2007 Queens Half-Marathon is now on the NYRR calendar. As previously posted, it will be taking place on Sunday, September 23rd, 2007. The link on the calendar currently takes the users to the Brooklyn Half-Marathon page, so there’s no new information yet about the possibility of a new course.

According to the New York Times, Mary Wittenberg is expected to announce that this year’s New York City Marathon will not have pacesetters, or “rabbits” for the elite athletes. From the article:
“We believe the best way to develop our sport is to focus on head-to-head competition,†Wittenberg said yesterday. “It’s all about building our stars and the thrill of victory. Time shouldn’t be the focus.â€

The Tug McGraw Foundation, founded to enhance the quality of life of children and adults with brain tumors, has been invited to be a charity partner for the 2007 ING New York City Marathon. Those runners who choose to participate in fund raising for this charity are eligible for guaranteed entry into the marathon. Members of TMF Honorary Chairman Tim McGraw’s band, the Dancehall Doctors, will be among those running for the Foundation.
Each TMF runner will honor a specific brain tumor patient to raise awareness for this disease. Dancehall Doctor Jeff McMahon will run in memory of Hannah Uhrmacher, a little girl who changed peoples’ lives with her “Ya Gotta Believe” attitude. Bandmate Dean Brown is running for Evan Sanka, a one-year old fighting a Hypothalamic Hamartoma (HH) brain tumor.

The weather was perfect for the 5,707 runners who finished the Run as One this morning in Central Park. The race was won by Worku Beyi, with Demesse Tefera directly behind him, both from Westchester Track Club. The first place female finisher was Alemtsehay Misganaw, also from WTC. Today is the last day of discounted registration for the New York Junior League Mother’s Day women-only 10 mile and co-ed 4 mile. This race takes place on Sunday, May 13th, 2007 in Central Park.
