I was not even contacted at all re: the cancellation and was coming in from out of town. Even now, I have received NO communication from MORE and they have my info as I was getting the weekly training guide directly to my e-mail. This was to be my 1st marathon and I actually did do the whole training program and feel totally BUMMED and VERY surprised. I actually never thought it could be canceled.

They should at a minimum write the marathoners something, comp next year's fee, something.....anything?????

I do not fault NYRR for cancelling the race as it was brutally hot. However, I was unhappy with some of the aspects of the race. First of all, the running course was not protected; many other recreational runners as well as bikers entered the course. Also, I finished right at 3 hours and as I crossed the finish line instead of being greeted with fluids, I heard "keep it moving, we have to clean everything up" What a let down that was. I quickly got out of the way without even getting water and started walking back to my hotel. As I did, I ended up fainting right outside the park. If there had been more attention to the finishers, I don't think that would have happened. Finally, since the decision was made to not time the race, why couldn't runners start earlier? If runners could start at 7:30, more racers would have been off the course earlier. I also agree that far too many racers were allowed for such a small course. Positive aspects were that the fluids along the course were plentiful and announcements were clear at the beginning of the race.

I question the way the NYRR club handled the cancelling of the race. I can understand why they felt they needed to cancel the marathon and cut the time the volunteers would need to be there to 3 hours. But why did they not time the half-marathon? And why did they wait until that morning, just before the race, to let us know? Something is very fishy about it. If they truly just decided that morning, how did they get the timing mats and the clocks out of there so quickly? Seems like they must have decided earlier, than kept it hush hush so they wouldn't have to deal with people wanting refunds or complaining. I question their ethics based on the way they handled the cancellation. I travelled from out of town for this race, and I will not be returning to do any more NYRR events.

Thank you to all the volunteers. Great job. Thank you for your on course support – the volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure there was enough fluids for us! I know the decision to cancel the Full and rework the Half did not come easily but I applaud your choice. I was greatly disappointed but totally understand. Out of our group of five, one finished, three did the one loop (me included . . ) and one wound up in the hospital. I know you wanted to avoid the Chicago Marathon debacle and you did, nicely. Weather is a big part of these events and no matter how hard you train, you always have to know in the back of your mind something could happen to cancel an event. This was my Third year participating and I will be back next year. You do a well run event and I am proud to be a part of it.

This was the worst race ever! Few cheer sections, the repetitive course, fluid station cups were too large and over filled - very little music....Just Awful!
