Races and walks that are taking place in the area this weekend:

• Saturday (5/2): EIF Revlon Run/Walk For Women, which takes you from Times Square to Central Park.
• Saturday (5/2): Brooklyn PTA 5K Run for Schools takes place in Prospect Park.
• Sunday (5/3): Riverdale Y 5K, an inaugural race being held at the Y in the Bronx.
• Sunday (5/3): 3rd Annual Captain Martin J. Egan Jr. Memorial 5K Run/Walk is taking place in Staten Island.

Those who run in Central Park should be aware that the Five Boro Bike Tour is happening on Sunday, May 3rd. The course takes bikers up Central Park’s East Drive from approximately 8:15am until 10:30am.

RunnersWeb.com has an article about the 2009 NYC Half Marathon, which will open for registration this Friday, May 1st at noon on a first come, first served basis.  The article discusses the possible high demand for the race:

Demand is expected to be heavy; 19,500 people applied last year and only 10,500 were accepted.

With registration for the NYC Half Marathon approaching, NYRR has not yet officially released the pricing for the race.  However, an anonymous reader has provided the following information about the NYC Half fees.  This information should be treated as an unverified rumor:

NYRR Members: $65
Non-Members Domestic: $70
Non-Members International: $70

Yesterday’s More Marathon was canceled due to unseasonably warm conditions in New York City. The Half Marathon took place albeit as an unscored, noncompetitive event.

NYRR’s R Baby Mother’s Day 4M is nearing registration capacity, according to the New York Road Runner’s website. The race takes place in Central Park on Sunday, May 10th.

There is a nice variety of races to choose from this weekend:

Saturday, April 25th:

• Run for the Wild 5K is happening at the Bronx Zoo. This untimed, non-competitive run includes Bronx Zoo admission and a free Congo Gorilla Forest ticket.

Sunday, April 26th:

• Lincoln Tunnel Challenge 5K is starting and finishing on the New Jersey side of the Lincoln Tunnel.  There is a free shuttle bus from Manhattan.
• Sweet ‘n Low-Rockaway Rotary Ocean Run 5K also includes a quarter mile kids race.
• Alley Pond Park 5 Mile Challenge is taking place in Queens Village.
• American Fertility Association and East Coast Fertility Run/Walk for Infertility is a 5K at Jones Beach.
• RMHA “Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies” 5K Run/Walk in Van Cortlandt Park.
• More® Magazine | Fitness® Magazine Marathon + Half-Marathon is no longer open for new registrants.

529 runners finished the 2009 JFK Runway Run 5K at the airport this past Sunday, an 82% increase in finishers over last year!  Below is round up of race coverage from the web:

NYRR has updated the Brooklyn Half Marathon race page with a course description.  As previously reported, the race starts in Prospect Park and ends in Coney Island, and is approximately the reverse of the previous course.
