NYC Marathon to Drop Pacesetters

According to the New York Times, Mary Wittenberg is expected to announce that this year’s New York City Marathon will not have pacesetters, or “rabbits” for the elite athletes. From the article:

â€œWe believe the best way to develop our sport is to focus on head-to-head competition,â€ Wittenberg said yesterday. â€œItâ€™s all about building our stars and the thrill of victory. Time shouldnâ€™t be the focus.â€
