Rumor: NYC Half-Marathon Pricing

There is currently a rumor circulating that there will be a $10 processing fee charged for applying to the NYC Half-Marathon. If this is anything like the NYC Marathon pricing policies, the processing fee is nonrefundable even if a runner is not selected in the lottery.

In the News: Get Off the Treadmill and Onto the City Streets

For the first full day of Spring, NYU's Washington Square News has an article about running in the streets of New York City. The article suggests a few routes other than the typically thought of Central Park and West Side Highway trails. The first route the author calls the "Greenwich to Greenwich," which takes you through the West Village. Another route goes through the streets of TriBeCa and ends near the World Trade Center site. The author also suggests running the Williamsburg Bridge and the jogging path within Prospect Park.

In the News: Winner in Central Park Has the Route Down Cold

Today's New York Times has an article about USA Men's 8K Championship, which was held on Sunday. The article quotes Anthony Famiglietti, the winner:
“It’s kind of hard to run in cold like this,” Famiglietti said. “My face was completely frozen, but with a $10,000 first prize, you run.”
The article also quotes Karl Dusen, a 24 year old a financial analyst for AIG Global Investment Group, who was featured in a New York Times piece last week:
“When you lost a group and ran by yourself, you felt the wind,” he said.
Dusen finished 28th out of the 50 runners with a time of 24:16.

Anthony Famiglietti Wins USA Men’s 8K Championship

Anthony Famiglietti and Abdi AbdirahmanNew Yorker Anthony Famiglietti finished first in the 2007 USA Men's 8K Championship this morning with a time of 22:35 with Abdi Abdirahman following close behind with a time of 22:41. JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge Registration Full

According to their website, the New York JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge has reached the maximim number of registrants of 15,000 for both nights, June 20th and 21st.

NYRR8000 Starting LineAlthough the race was changed to an unscored fun run, there was a good showing this morning at the NYRR 8000. Runners reported very icy conditions along the cource. In the News: Defending His Title, Without His Twin

The New York Times has an article about former national champion Jorge Torres and his twin brother, Edwardo. Jorge will be running the USA Men's 8K Championship tomorrow and is considering running the Olympic Marathon trials on November 3rd in Central Park. The article also quotes elite runner Abdi Abdirahman regarding running in Central Park in adverse conditions:
“There’s nothing tricky about Central Park,” he said. “You know the hills are there. And as for the weather, snow and sleet aren’t my favorite or anyone’s, but you cannot worry about the weather. You just run.”

Update: NYRR 8000 and USA Men’s 8K Championships

New York Road Runners has updated their website again informing runners that the NYRR 8000 is going to be an unscored, non club points fun run. The USA Men's 8K Championship has been postponed until Sunday, March 18th at 9:00 am.
